By Michelle Perez ![]() Pupusas are considered the national trademark for Salvadorians. They are thick handmade tortillas filled with any mixture of food, such as frijoles, cheese, beef, etc. A local family of Salvadorans in San Jose have gone steps further to share this delicious meal they eat on a daily basis. Every Friday, from 7-11 pm, they open up their backyard where tables are set up for customers to come and eat. Each pupusa costs two dollars and you have the choice to choose what you want in it. Jesus Lopez, the eldest son of the family, and various other cousins of that family attend KIPP San Jose Collegiate, where they do most of their advertising. During school events/fundraisers, they participate in selling pupusas to raise money for the school. At their busiest, they get over twenty people in line eagerly waiting to get their hands on a pupusa. It does take a while to receive your meal, but it is surely worth the wait. According to all of their customers, they are the best in town. Nancy Quinones, a student and customer at KSJC has said, ¨I eat them almost every week and I never get tired of them.¨ From their juicy sauce and nicely melted cheese, they are sure to please your stomach. Don’t be pressured to go out to a fast food restaurant and eat reheated food when you can have a nice, warm, home cooked meal to eat, like these pupusas. Next time you’re wandering around San Jose looking for something to eat, be sure to stop by and try the greatest pupusas in town, you won’t regret it!
