![]() By: Adrian Ruelas There are dozens of great mexican restaurants in the San Jose area, but a few shine above the rest. Here, I will be giving you my top 3 places (not in any certain order) on where to get a good burrito and other mexican foods.
(408) 923-3610 Jalisco Taqueria is a popular restaurant which sits on King Road, an extremely busy street that goes all down through the eastside of San Jose. Jalisco Taqueria is never full on weekdays, but on weekends, especially at night, the place is packed with hungry customers craving some delicious mexican food. I went on Wednesday, February 13, to get a burrito. When I arrived, the place was mostly clean, with a somewhat dirty floor. I ordered a large supreme carne asada burrito, at a price of $8.39. It seemed a bit pricey. I went to wash my hands, and I noticed their bathrooms weren’t the cleanest, at least the men’s bathrooms weren’t. The floor was wet and dirty, the toilet was unsanitary, and the sink looked like if it had been there since the 1780’s. I went back to wait for my burrito, and I only had to wait one more minute. In total, the wait time was 4 minutes. The burrito was good, was well made, and I realized why it was a bit pricey. It had everything I wanted: cilantro (coriander), carne asada, arroz (rice), aguacate (avocado), and frijoles (beans). Madison Tlatenchi said, “It was good, you don’t get tired of it.”
(408) 937-1010 La Costa is a great place to get mariscos and mexican food, including tacos, burritos, tortas, ceviche, cócteles, and more. They have three locations in San Jose, and the nearest to my house happened to be their outdoor restaurant. The place was fairly busy, and I was surprised people stayed there to eat considering there wasn’t any indoor seating and it was chilly outside. I went and ordered the same type of burrito that I got at Jalisco’s, but this place had higher quality food, better tortillas, more meat, a larger variety of stuff inside (that you can ask the cashier to keep out). It was a bit bigger, and tasted authentic, like it came straight out of Mexico. I ordered a Jarritos Mandarina drink, and it paired great with the giant burrito. Luis Ramirez has this to say about the place, “That sh*t is super bomb, no cap. The burritos are delicioso, so much flavor into it, and I love when they put crema in it, I just love it. I would go everyday if I had money. It is pretty clean for being outside, sometimes you see bird poop, and they swarm you if you drop meat, but it just adds to the excitement.” There are also indoor locations, if outdoor isn’t for you. ![]()
(408) 272-7871 Super Taqueria is another mexican food chain in San Jose, though this one seems to be popular and preferred by many. When I went I ordered a burrito (the same type as the previous locations) and waited. The bathrooms weren’t clean, but I had to do with what I had. I washed my hands, and left, thinking my order would be ready soon. Man, was I mistaken. It took about 30 minutes for my order to be ready, but considering how crowded the place are, I don’t blame them. There were tons of people, probably more than all the other restaurants I mentioned combined. There was little walking space, and it was a miracle if you got a seat to wait on. I watched as the workers made the food, and they worked extremely fast, and seemed exhausted. Despite their efforts, the food took a great amount of time to be ready. Though the time wait was considerably long, the food was absolutely delicious. The had a great, well cooked tortilla de harina, with perfect meat, avocados, cilantro, crema, rice, beans and more. My friends said they sold proficient burritos there, and it definitely tasted like one. Here are some thoughts from a fellow classmate: “The food was pretty good, but the place didn’t seem that sanitary to me, so if I were to go there again I would probably order to go”, describes Sergio Contreras. Those are my three favorite places to go eat mexican foods like burritos and more! Make sure to stop by these places soon, and keep in mind the review to know all the pros and cons that these restaurants have. ![]() Donuts could come into many shapes, colors, and designs. Many people enjoys eating donuts with a cup of coffee or milk, which makes it much taster to eat as a kid or an adult. The history of donuts had been an experience for many people that would need a little sweet in their lives. The donut that has the hole in the middle had been the more iconic around these past years. Hanson Crockett Gregory was a 16 year old sailor who had invented the donut hole in June 22, 1847. Hanson Crockett was born on the month of 1831 in Rockport. He had been reportedly eating fried dough while he was piloting his ship. The history of the national doughnut day had started in 1938 as a fundraiser for, “Chicago’s The Salvation Army.” They had only one goal to complete first and it was to help out those who were in need during the Great Depression and to honor the salvation army, “Lassies” of world war one. They served doughnuts to the soldiers, and about 250 volunteers went to France. As for the first bagels they were first invented in a successful french bagel restaurant. Then that's when Hanson Gregory, a seaman, had claimed to invent the donuts. One of the most popular donut place is for example is the Krispy Kreme donut place. Vernon Rudolph is the one who had founded the Krispy Kreme donut place. The Krispy Kreme donut place was founded in July 13,1937 in Winston-Salem,NC. Vernon Rudolph bought a secret doughnut recipe found from a New Orleans French chef. He had then started to rent a building in which he started selling a bunch of Krispy Kreme donuts on July 13,937 to many other local grocery stores as well. The most iconic doughnut from Krispy Kreme are the glazed donuts which everyone would always get and would enjoy eating. These types of donuts are very soft and smooth to bite into. Julia Silva, a freshman student, had tasted the Krispy Kreme donuts and had shared that her favorite doughnuts from there is, “the glazed donuts because they are just so soft to bite into and once you bite into the glazed donut it will just melt into your mouth.” This demonstrates that these type of donuts were and still are the most loved donuts from Krispy Kreme. Another student named Marcos had said that his favorite donut from Krispy Kreme is the, “glazed doughnut because they put the right amount of sugar and it would just make my day even if its a rough day.” This illustrates that he also enjoys eating glazed donuts because of the sweetness and the vibe that it gives you once you take a bite out of it. Ernesto, a freshman student, says that he was, “really happy it turned out as expected,” by this he means that the donuts was, “really crunchy on the glaze, but really soft in the inside.” Ernesto tells me that he would give it a 9/10. Another donut place that is just usually just to grab and go is the Yum Yum donuts. The Yum-Yum donuts are just based in California, it was founded in 1971 by Philip C. Holland. The difference in yum-yum donuts and any other donut place is that they would just make only regular donuts that are just donuts that have a hole in the middle of the donut and many people would usually only get the dozen box just to quickly exit and enjoy. This donut place also contains any type of drink you want to go with your donut such as coffee, milk, flavor milk, and ect. The yum-yum donuts have a very smooth icing that goes on top and other donuts would have a crunch to it. According to a freshman student named Alexis said that his favorite donut from this place is the, “chocolate donut which has chocolate icing all over the top because sometimes it could be very smooth and the texture of the donut is just the best to bite into.” This demonstrates that some would just enjoy on the texture of the icing or the bread. Overall, many people would often just choose the Krispy Kreme donut over the yum-yum donuts because of the texture and the sweetness out of it. |
