Mostly everyone you ask will know what a Quinceanera is. It’s usually a big party for the girl whos turning fifteen years old. But not everyone knows the meaning behind one. For example not a lot of people know what changing your shoes like flats or converse for some heels symbolizes.( It mean the girl is changing from a little girl to a young woman). A quince is a coming-of-age celebration for the girl. Many people start preparing for this celebration as early as the girl is born, saving up money until she’s old enough. And the actual preparations start somewhere from six months up until a year before the party. After all there is a lot of things to prepare. There dances that must be learned (these are called el baile sorpresa and the waltz and the last dance with her father). And Cakes to be ordered, dresses to be made, and decorations to be picked out. Plus the Salon and the Catholic mass. In a quince Ceremony many little things can symbolize big things. For example even though this isn't used as much anymore the girl would have 14 boys and girls as Damas and Chambelanes. They represent the previous 14 years of her life. When the girl’s godparents give her,her last doll that represents leaving her childhood behind. The crown means that you are a princess before god and your community. Not a lot of people do this either but the surprise gift means that life is full of surprises. The ring represents god’s endless love and finally the bouquet of flowers represents a new life with the commitment of beauty and truth.
