![]() Madison Tlatenchi March 26, 2019 This is the first year that KSJC will have a Track and Field team. Track and Field is a type of sport that involves running and using your upper and lower body strength. They have events like 100-meter sprint, long distance running, hurdles, shot put, long jump and etc. A normal day at practice is doing workouts that will better improve their performances. They first start with warm-ups like jogging, buttkicks, high-knees, karaokes, and many others. Then they move into a circle and condition, doing planks, push-ups, and bridges. They then split into their categories like jumpers, hurdles, relays, throwers, distance, and sprinters. There, they will work on their performances. Past Meets The track team had a schrimage with Yerba Buena and Independence high school. This was the first time the team would experience what a track meet looks like, sounds like, and feels like. (Ask some people how it felt like). Some highlights of the night were that Josue Martinez placed first in the 400-meter race, Kyle DePadua placed 7th in long jump, Aliyah Mohammed placed 4th in the women's 100-meter dash. The first ever meet was March 30th, The Firebird relay took place at Fremont high school. This was a meet where we would test out our new relay races. It was nerve wracking for most but they ended up placing 10th in Frosh Soph Women's 4 by 100 relay race, Last in both Women and Males 4 by 400 relay race, and Cindy Tran placed 15 in shot put. What do you hope for the season? The track team still has a month and a half left of the season. While some people like Agustin hope that the team gets top 10 in at least 3 events a meet. Others think long term, they want to focus on getting faster and working on their acceleration. The team also hopes that they get closer and that they build a strong relationship with one another. After talking to Coach Monagle he hopes to “establish a team culture that will last for very long, I want to teach my athletes to push their limits through fitness and through performance, and teach them to be healthy competitors.” The track team has amazing so far and will continue to get better over the years. Show the Wolfpack spirit and come support them in their next 2 PSAL meets.
