By Michelle Perez The KSJC Dodgeball tournament is now in its second year. The tournament started on Tuesday, October 13th, and ended on Monday, October 26th, with the finals. It's been a very tough and surprising tournament where many of the upperclassmen were left astonished at how the underclassmen played. One of the most recognized freshman in the tournament is Jaydyn Casillas, a freshman in Reza's advisory. He's got quite an arm to throw! All matches have been tight and highly anticipated with many of our students coming out during lunch to participate. One of the most popular games was the match between Mr.Thomas' advisory and Mr.Low's advisory. Mr.Thomas is known for being very competitive along with his advisees. The first round was won by Mr.Low. The second round was very crucial for Mr.Thomas because if he didn't win, it would be the end of his run. During the second round, a ball coming from Mr.Low's team was thrown but, luckily, one of Mr.Thomas' players was able to catch it to win the round. It came down to the third and final round. You could hear and see the anxiety in both team's faces. As always, once the ref said ¨go!¨, both teams ran off to the middle line, where all the balls were set, and waited for the five seconds to be counted down. Once the five seconds were over, Mr.Low's team waited for the opposing team to strike. Once Thomas' team threw all of their balls, they anxiously anticipated the return. All of a sudden, Mr.Low's advisory unleashed their dodgeballs, getting almost 4 players out at once. It was a tough round, ending with only one player from each team: Nancy Quinones from Thomas' team, and Logan Baker from Low's team. The rules state that once there is just one player left from both teams, they are able to cross the line. As Nancy ran to get a dodgeball, she was struck by Logan, which resulted in a win for Low’s advisory. After the game, Oscar Heredia from Mr.Low's team stated, ¨I knew it was going to be a hard game since Thomas is so competitive, but I'm just glad we were able to pull through and win¨. Just like Mr.Thomas, Mr.Low is extremely competitive in every match, but according to him, he just wants to ¨take pride in doing something fun with [his] advisory and have bragging rights with it.¨ The final match was on Monday, October 26th, with Mr.Hansen's advisory versus Ms.Porton's. After a stiff game, Mr.Hansen’s advisory took home the gold and won KSJC's second annual dodgeball tournament. No one expected a freshman advisory to defeat all of the upper grade levels, but they exceeded our expectations. Congratulations to Mr.Hansen's advisory and hopefully they're capable of maintaining their title. We hope to continue this annual tournament every year, and to all our seniors, we hope you enjoyed your last high school dodgeball tournament. Good luck to everyone else next year!
