![]() Janeth Saldivar March 26, 2019 Journalism Article 4 Spirit week is a special week where students who attend school can show their school and team spirit by dressing up in line with the days’ themes. This spirit week, the days were March 26 to March 29. Tuesday, March 26 - Teen Flick Tuesday Wednesday, March 27 - Battle of the Networks Thursday, March 28 - Hero vs. Villain Friday, March 29 - Friday Fandom The theme on Tuesday allowed students to dress up from a teen film. Teen film targets teenagers and young adults in which the plots of the movies is based on “our” interest such as coming of age, trying to fit in, love, etc. Some films which the students were able to get inspiration from are films such as The Outsiders, Grease, Mean Girls, Teen Beach Movie, and so on. On Wednesday, Battle of the Networks was dressing up to be able to represent your favorite network, Disney vs. Cartoon Network vs. Nickelodeon. If you had a Disneyland sweater, it would be the easiest way to participate in this theme day. If it wasn’t this that you were wearing, you had dressed up as a character from any network. Thursday, students had to choose to be either the hero or the villain. The most common heroes seen around campus were Batman and Superman. Also, other characters I saw were The Incredibles which was a good character to dress up as because when you think of a superhero, we don’t really categorize them as superheros. The last day was Friday, Friday Fandom. This day was dedicated to showing off what you are a fan of. Most people dressed up to represent either their fandom for Star Wars or for Harry Potter, most commonly. I asked people both why they decided to participate or why they did not participate. Most people told me that they participated but they just wore free dress rather than actually dressing up to participate. Others said that they didn’t participate because they just didn’t know what to wear. At KSJC, the amount of spirit we have does not compare to the kind of spirit other schools have. Other schools go all out when it comes to spirit week and it would be better if our school was like that too.

![]() Madison Tlatenchi March 26, 2019 This is the first year that KSJC will have a Track and Field team. Track and Field is a type of sport that involves running and using your upper and lower body strength. They have events like 100-meter sprint, long distance running, hurdles, shot put, long jump and etc. A normal day at practice is doing workouts that will better improve their performances. They first start with warm-ups like jogging, buttkicks, high-knees, karaokes, and many others. Then they move into a circle and condition, doing planks, push-ups, and bridges. They then split into their categories like jumpers, hurdles, relays, throwers, distance, and sprinters. There, they will work on their performances. Past Meets The track team had a schrimage with Yerba Buena and Independence high school. This was the first time the team would experience what a track meet looks like, sounds like, and feels like. (Ask some people how it felt like). Some highlights of the night were that Josue Martinez placed first in the 400-meter race, Kyle DePadua placed 7th in long jump, Aliyah Mohammed placed 4th in the women's 100-meter dash. The first ever meet was March 30th, The Firebird relay took place at Fremont high school. This was a meet where we would test out our new relay races. It was nerve wracking for most but they ended up placing 10th in Frosh Soph Women's 4 by 100 relay race, Last in both Women and Males 4 by 400 relay race, and Cindy Tran placed 15 in shot put. What do you hope for the season? The track team still has a month and a half left of the season. While some people like Agustin hope that the team gets top 10 in at least 3 events a meet. Others think long term, they want to focus on getting faster and working on their acceleration. The team also hopes that they get closer and that they build a strong relationship with one another. After talking to Coach Monagle he hopes to “establish a team culture that will last for very long, I want to teach my athletes to push their limits through fitness and through performance, and teach them to be healthy competitors.” The track team has amazing so far and will continue to get better over the years. Show the Wolfpack spirit and come support them in their next 2 PSAL meets. |
