It’s the 2nd year of the KSJC Golf team in the division and they aren’t off to a great start. This team has some returning players and a majority of them are young, so they’re going to develop throughout the season. They’ve had four games and it isn’t looking too good which is causing them to suffer from a 0-4 record. “We’re getting there. Just give us some time” Cristian Becerra had said after being reminded of the record. However, even though a lot of people play this game, they still don’t have a correct understanding of the rules. Golf is a unique game. Others consider golf as more of a “game” compared to a “sport”. A variety of sticks are able to be used to hit the golf ball, depending on what area the ball is. Unlike most sports, the score is determined differently. In golf, the lower the score, the more it’s actually worth. A round of golf is played over 18 holes. The score is based on the number of tries it takes a person of the team to get the golf ball into the hole. So, the lower your score is, the higher chance you have of winning. Generally, you are in charge of keeping track of the score for your opponent, and your opponent is responsible for keeping track of your score. I interviewed one of the golf players and asked them why they decided to join the golf team this spring and he responded saying,“I joined the golf team because I had past experience as a younger kid and I thought it would be something that I would go back to” Ethan Khuu-Tran has said. Then I asked Daniel Le, what is the hardest part of playing golf and he said,“Getting your strokes right. When you aim incorrectly, the ball doesn’t go where you want it to go”. Head coach of the KSJC Golf team, Coach Thomas has brought the team to a 0-4 record. The team consists of a total of 12 players with ranging from all different grade levels. There is three freshmen, six sophomores, one junior, and two seniors. The three freshman on the team is Kayla Wong, Cristian Becerra, and Daniel Le. The six sophomores are Ethan Khuu-Tran, Samantha Delgado, Daisy Carmona, Andre Pham, Thuy Nguyen, and Celine De Villa. The only junior on the team is Ethan Pugay, and lastly, the two seniors are Chloee Wong, and team captain Tyler Thai. The team’s latest game was against Independence High School on April 2nd. They lost to a score of 310 to 244. With more time and practice, their next few games shouldn’t be so hard.
