![]() By Eduardo Yañez KIPP San Jose Collegiate boys soccer team had their first game on December 1, 2018. They faced Lynbrook once again for the 4th year in a row. In the past KSJC has tied 2 games and lost 1. This past Saturday another loss was added to the list. Lynbrook defeated KSJC 3-2. KSJC was a goal short of another draw, but, according to the players and coaches of KSJC, KSJC had a fair chance of winning the game. KSJC started off slow and without rhythm. Lynbrook on the other hand, started off explosive and extremely quick. Lynbrook took advantage of KSJC’s slow start and scored 2 goals in the first 5 minutes. Mid first half KSJC decided to react and scored a retaliation goal. Captain #10 Eduardo Yanez crossed the ball and Captain #6 Steve Rosales headered it into the box where Juan Carlos Centeno blasted it in. The weather was all over the place. The weather switched from intense rain and hail to sunny and warm. KSJC started the second half with a winning mentality. The whole squad was fired up and ready to go win the game. Captain #10 Eduardo Yanez was fouled at the edge of Lynbrook’s box. Lalo, Eduardo’s nickname, sets up the ball for the free kick. Lalo positions himself, the referee blows the whistle. Lalo shoots and scores to give KSJC a goal and one step closer to winning the game. The final whistle was blown and the players walked off the field. Team Captain #6 Steve Rosales said, “ For our first game playing together as a team we did pretty good. The defense was solid, the attack was doing some work up top, but we have no middle. That’s where we need to fix things. Especially the Center Defensive Mids. By next game, we will have fixed this and we will be even better.” Head Coach Ruva said, “I was just trying to see where they play the best and where they are the most beneficial to the team. I made a lot of substitutions, but the boys still managed to play with each other and to play a good game.” Although the KSJC boys lost, they are satisfied with how the team played.
