By: Madison Tlatenchi ![]() The girls varsity soccer team is filled with skilled, kind hearted and determined girls this season. Like every new season, the coaches and the players strive to become better and to learn new skills. This will be a season to remember. Team Members: Recent Games: Jennifer Ortega KSJC vs Pinewood High School J. Medina (0-3) Adriana Cruz M. Pinedo KSJC vs Alpha Cindy Avita Maria Castilljo (0-6) Valeria Del Real S.Madera KSJC vs Eastside College Prep Brianna Delatorre (0-3) Paola Ramirez Shakira Ramirez Izabelle Hernandez Cassandra Yera Licon S. Aguirre J. Aparicio Cassandra Rivas Coach Arambula Mr. Arambula, the girls' varsity soccer coach, is really passionate about the team and is determined to take not make them better players but people. His goal for this season is, ”I want my players to be empathetic humans that will support each other through good or bad.” He also has expectations for them like, ”Applying what we learn on the field in the classroom. No, I don't mean kicking a ball inside of the classroom, but, I mean being great teammates and learning to be resilient through defeat.” _________________________________________________________________ As I talked to some of the team players about the recent game and what they hoped for this season. As the girls reflected on what they hope to practice for the next following days until their next match against Alpha Cindy Aviata, they had a few things to say. Coach Arambula said, ”We've only had three games so far, so, I don't have much to go off of. What I will say is that we need more work on passing and dribbling skills as well as a bit of conditioning.” Izabelle Hernandez (#15), ”Some things that I hope to practice on is communicating during games and conditioning more so we can be more aggressive. Another thing is being more quicker on the field with passing the ball.” While someone like Shakira, a junior at KSJC, wants the team to not only communicate more but to play more aggressively. Brianna, a sophomore here at KSJC, wants the team to work together and support each other more. Working on both could really help the team but the girls have to be driven and always willing to learn. What do you want to individually achieve this season? Each player has their own strength and they have things that they want to get better at. As I asked this player this question they seemed excited to work on their weaknesses for next season. Brianna (#12),” I hope I improve in each skill so that I can be the best player I can be on the field.” Izabelle Hernandez(#15),” Some players including myself hope to achieve this season is to win the championship and building a stronger bond with the whole team and the coaches. Shakira (#17),’’ I hope we make it to the championships and take the trophy home.” Jackie Torres (#1),” I hope to get better at defense skills since this is my 2nd year playing and I wanna become better for myself and the team.” While other girls told me about what they wanted to work on. Maria Castillejo, the team captain, focused more on her teammates than herself,” I hope every girl gets something out of this season including tons of memories. I want to become a better team leader and I need to focus on my own passing and scoring.” What things will make your team stronger? Something that the majority of the players have said that will make their team stronger is focusing more on supporting one another and teamwork. They have barely started their season and some girls are barely getting to know each other. Building a supportive and happy environment for the team can be a great foundation into leading them into victory. Knowing that they can trust one another and keeping their heads up even when they are losing. This team is filled with strong and caring people who will strive to get better for not only themselves but for the team. This season is going to be filled with great memories and the girls improving. Stay tuned for future events and games.
