Softball is a sport that really isn't that big here at KIPP. That's why we like to honor our players, especially the ones that it's their last year playing with us.
This has been a tradition that goes on in every high school. I am a junior at KIPP who plays softball and we celebrated our senior night on May 08, 2017. Our seniors are: Nancy Quintero, Bianca Olivarez, Lizeth Galindo, and Sheila Camerino. It was a home game when the other non-senior girls decided to surprise the seniors with their own game ball with everyone's signature. We brought the girls flowers and we made them a poster to thank them for playing with us. Nancy’s mom later brought fresh water after the game to congratulate us for our win of the game and for the seniors. According to the senior Sheila she said that she was very thankful for this especially that we included her because she stopped playing for us a week before and we still included her. The senior Nancy said, “ I will remember this and I am thankful you guys thought of this for us.” Overall, this event gets me excited for my senior night and I feel like this is something special, since everyone is honoring you for playing . -Andrea Navarro

A current Senior names Joseph Nunez at KSJC has been playing baseball his whole life now. He has been playing baseball since freshmen year here in KSJC.
Spirit week is a tradition every school takes place in to show their school spirit. Different schools have different events going on. Even though KIPP is a small school, we still like to show our spirit. On Tuesday, students participated in pride day. Students got to wear rainbow colors to show their support on LGBT. On Wednesday, students participated in jock vs geek day. Students could either dress as a nerd or wear their favorite team jersey. On Thursday, is was twin day. Students got to dress the same as their friends. To finish up the week, Friday was grade color. Freshman wore white, sophomores wore black, juniors wore blue, and seniors wore red. We ended the day with a school rally. Students organized activities were we got to compete for points for a free dress pass on Wednesday. Also, in the rally, school athletes got recognized. Others school share common themes and also have a rally although their school is bigger and their rallies are obviously bigger. Students enjoy spirit week because it only comes once in awhile. A student from Kipp San Jose Collegiate, Katia Gonzalez, said that our school rally is different from her old school because she went to Mitty, a much bigger school than KIPP, but her overall experience was okay. -Andrea Navarro
Hey KSJC students, Well, seniors are almost leaving. They going off to college in a month and a half. We won’t see them anymore unless they visit us. But at the end of the day, everyone is going to be a senior. But one thing that is really fun when it comes to being a senior is Grad Nite. Grad Nite is a special thing for all the seniors after their graduation. It is going to Disneyland with all your senior classmates and having a time together one last time and having fun while making more memories with each other and say goodbye to those who you won’t see in college. In addition, the park stays close later for all schools that are attending and it the only time that you can take pictures at Disneyland with some of the characters holding up the “ Class of _____” sign. Grad night is over 200 dollars but there are ways to be able to fundraise money so you can be able to pay less. For example selling chocolate, pizza sales, Panda Express fundraiser, and holiday grams. One of the students involved In the Grad Night planning has said that the team is planning on telling students and teachers ways to help seniors with the Grad Nite trip. Everyone is eligible to go. The more people that attend or sign up the lower the ticket cost at the beginning of the year. However, keep in mind that the more students that go the more buses that will have to be rented and that is more costly. It’s all about finding the perfect balance and working with that to create a budget. In all this is a really special and fun event that every senior class should remember and enjoy! - Carolina Cancino By: Vincent Back
The sports going on right now here at Kipp Collegiate are baseball, softball, and golf. So far the baseball team is has lost all five of their games. Two of those five games were league games. The coaches for the baseball team are Mr.Page and Mr.Hansen. Both coaches have agreed that this year will be another year of growing in terms of skill. “We have a lot of people on the team who haven’t played baseball before, so were behind in terms of fundamentals”. The softball team, on the other hand, are actually doing pretty well. The girls have a solid record of three wins and four losses. Three of the seven games were league games and the girls won two of the three. The girls have been working hard this season and are expected to go far by their head coach; Gabriel Becerra. And finally the golf team. The golf team has been a program here at Kipp Collegiate for two years. So far this season the golf team has had one match which was against Nueva School. Unfortunately, our wolf pack golf players went home with a loss and a score of two hundred and four to two hundred thirty-four. By Anita Lara
Softball: Andrea Navarro Here at KSJC we have a junior named Andrea Navarro that plays softball. She is going to talk about her team. She is able to play all of the positions on the field because she has been playing the sport since she was six. She plays this sport because she loves it and she can let her anger out in this sport. She hated the team because she says that no one puts in the effort to play during games. She feels like she's the only one doing everything. A lot of the girls are new and never played softball. It's their first year playing the sport. The new players that have gone to replaced some seniors are two freshman. She also doesn't think that they will make it to CCS because their not at the level to make it yet. Something that they should try to do during practice is practice plays and try different positions to see what is a perfect position for each girl. They need to get to know eachother better know how they play so they can improve as a team. The coach's attitude are always positive because want to win. They take time off their jobs to come to practice us. At practice they try to make them better but it's just not doing anything to the girls. The girls seem like they don't try or they don't seem interested in the sport. To upperclassmen, prom may be one of the most seminal events in their high school career. Prom is a day where you can dress nicely to impress your classmates. Some say that last year’s prom was only a decent experience, so, this year’s prom committee are planning on throwing the best prom this school has ever seen. Some people say that prom is a waste of time and is too expensive. But prom is a good way to spend time with all your classmates for the last time. You get to eat fancy food, take group pictures, dance, and distress from the Advanced Placement exams.
This year´s prom theme is 90´s Hollywood Golden Age. The whole prom room is going to be black and all the decorations are going to be gold. There will be a red carpet in the entrance hall so you can feel special. The location for prom is at Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose on April 29th. This years tickets are limited to 125. The first two weeks of tickets being sold are priorities to seniors because there was a year where tickets were sold out to mostly juniors. The school will start advertising for prom at the beginning of March and tickets will be sold at the beginning of April. Don’t miss your tickets!! - Jimmy Nguyen by Ashley Melgar
