![]() By: Eduardo yanez The KIPP San Jose Collegiate soccer season has come to an end for both the boys and girls. The boys ended off the season in second place after coming back from a rough start of the season. The boys lost 3 of their first 4 league games which really put them at the bottom of the table at the beginning of the season. The first game the boys were defeated by a final score of 4-1. The girls finished the season strong with a 6-0 win against local school DCP Alameda. The girls placed second place in their league as well. Both the boys and the girls had a rough start to their season but made a comeback from the bottom of the table to the top 2 spots. Unfortunately, the boys were one win away from becoming league champions, but they left that match with a draw. DCP Alameda held the boys at a 1-1 game and that draw cost the boys the league title. The girls played their hearts out all season long despite not having their full squad because of injuries. The girls placed second place and were not that far from winning the title. The boys really seemed to have turned the tables as they quickly recovered and assumed a spot among the top 3 in the table. The boys started their winning streak after defeating first place team Summit Prep Academy. The boys then went on to play and defeat local rivals DCP Alum Rock and LCPA. All was well until they faced DCP Alameda. The boys had previously defeated DCP Alameda by a final score of 4-1. The boys played this game in their own backyard because it was a home game. What should have been an easy game for them, turned out to be a nightmare. The KIPP boys finished that game with a draw as both teams had a goal on the board. The final score of the match was 1-1. In order for the KIPP boys to have had a shot at the title they had to win the match against DCP Alameda. The boys then successfully ended off the season undefeated and as second place team. The girls had a roller coaster of a season. The girls ended off the season in second place after starting the season off at the bottom of the table. The girls tweaked and fixed the minor mistakes they had at the beginning of the season and turned it around. The girls were always excited and ready to play on their game days. They defeated local rivals DCP Alum Rock on both encounters. The girls defended the cup at the Battle of the Den and were victorious after winning that game with a final score of 5-0. They then defeated DCP Alum Rock once again, but this time by a score of 3-0. Nonetheless, the girls dominated every team in the league, but unfortunately ended up a couple points short of first place. The boys captain Steve Rosales had this to say, “Towards the end we started picking things up, but it was a little too late. Overall it wasn’t the best season, but it was good season.“
