With summer approaching and college just around the corner for many high school students, many of them are looking for a summer job to save up or simply make money on their spare time.
Here at KIPP, there seems to be a lot of students working at the same job such as California’s Great America. Great America serves as a great first and summer job because it hires many teens starting at age 16 and it opens during the summer time to its guest. It is also a great job to gain experience with customer service and handling adult responsibilities. There are many summer jobs out there for teens that can lead to better and advanced job opportunities. Marisa is a great example of how a summer job led her to a great opportunity. Marisa started of with a summer job working at a retail store named “Journey’s” getting paid $10 an hour. She was able to gain experience with customers and handling money as a cashier. She learned many skills there such as being patient with customers, manage time, use a register, short and stock shoes, and being able to advertise for the store. Marisa decided to end her job at “Journey's “ because she wanted to try something else than retail. The experience with this one job let her to be hired at the “UPS store” with a better pay of $11 an hour. ALl the skills she learned prior to this job led her to be successful in the store and being able to work with any customer at any circumstance. A summer job can lead to great opportunities and is better to start right when you turn 16 so when you're 18 you have better chances of earning a higher paying job.
