Apple Macbook Pro w/ Touch Screen (13-15 Inch, 2016)
Apple’s new Macbook Pro is thinner and lighter than the previous models. The keyboard on the laptop is flatten with tactile butterfly keys and an expanded touchpad. It also has the latest Intel CPUs, faster uploading storage and a brighter screen than before. But one of the downsides of the laptop is that it only at USB-C ports. There are three USB-C ports on the Macbook Pro and although it charges the laptop faster, not many technology uses USB type C. In alternative to this change, you would have to buy annoying adapters and dongles that attach out of your laptop in order to plug and connect anything to the Macbook. But one of the more controversial topic about the new Macbook Pro is the new Touch Bar on top of the keyboard. It is a replacement for all the buttoned features on previous models of the laptop. It may be convenient for some of the applications that Apple supports, but other than that, it’s a gimmick. The only thing that it is relevant for is for its touch id to purchase from Apple Pay. At the same time, the Apple Macbook Pro retails for $1,500 for the most basic version, which is a price that you would use for a high end PC. The second best version is $1,800 and the best version is $2,000. The fact that this laptop cost so much, it means it’s outside the price range for many people for just a solid and basic laptop. HP Spectre x360 (13-15 inch, 2017) Although the 13 inch HP Spectre x360 doesn’t have an SD slot or a HDMI port like it’s bigger version(15 inch), it still packs the same performance in a more compacted laptop. It is 13% thinner and 11% lighter than it’s previous model. It is pretty tough to beat this laptop’s battery because it goes from 8 to 9 hours from a full charge on a 4k display. I think this is the best all-around ultraportable 2-in1 because you can detach the screen and make it a tablet if you want. It comes with a sleeve that you can put your laptop in and a pen that you draw with on your laptop. You can turn your screen to face the opposite direction so you don’t have to just put it flat on the desk or old it while you do your work. Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (12.3 inch, 2016) If you’re looking for a more traditional laptop, this Surface Pro 4 is going to be exciting. This is one of the best designed laptop ever created. Even though it can be a table, it is the one of the world’s most powerful and thinnest Windows 10 computers in the world. If you actually dock the screen into the keyboard, you get more even more performance because of it’s extra GPU. Though it is a little bit more expensive than the usual laptop, you can try to find it for less on websites like Amazon and Intel. If you are looking for a laptop that is going to last you for awhile with amazing performance. You should totally get this one. Lenovo Yoga 910 (13.9 inch, 2017) This laptop is one of the thinnest considering how big the screen is. The body of the Yoga 910 has a more edgier look than it’s previous one. It feels nice in the hands because it has an aluminum body. It’s also has a nice set of JBL speakers with Dolby Audio Premium. You can choose specific specifications on Lenovo’s laptop seeing what you want and wouldn’t want on the laptop. For such a thin laptop, this laptop is as powerful as the Surface Pro 4. There is also a fingerprint reader for extra security if you want it. The keyboard and mouse pad has been updated to a more sleeker and tactile feel. The battery one this laptop last from 8 to 10 hours depending on what you are doing. At a thousand dollars this is the best ultraportable with a bigger screen laptop you can get out there. -Jimmy Nguyen

Over the past decade, Samsung has developed a flagship smartphone line up. These flagships has evolved over the years, which brings us to the latest released, Samsung Galaxy S8. This new phone looks awesome, and that’s why this phone is mostly purchased around the world for. But, we can’t forget that this phone is a flagship of Samsung; so it has all the latest and greatest specifications you would expect from a premium hardware design. But is this phone the complete package?
I would love to admire the build of this phone. Pretty much everything outside of this phone is premium and well built. The eye-catcher for this phone is the 5’8 inch display up front. The glassed front is built smoothly, connecting it to the back of the phone. Previous years of the Samsung S line up has been more sharp on the edges. Also, we see that the Galaxy S8 is taller than the usual smartphone nowadays. But don’t worry if you have a normal sized hand, luckily there is nearly no bezels on the phone and it is so narrow, anyone can use it at their own risk. But one of the downsides of having a taller, bezel-less screen is that there is no more button in front. Samsung improvised and readjusted the unlock button from the front to the back. Instead of moving it to the middle of the back compared to the other popular flagship phones for reachability. Although, the relocation may look better for the phone, it is further to reach considering how tall the phone is and is located on top of the phone. One feature that has been improved compared to the previous years with the S-line of Samsung, is the face-recognition feature. The sensor or the wide angle lens has improved the iris scanner of the phone which makes it easier for you to unlock the phone at more certain angles, rather than just putting it right in front of your face. Aside from the weird tallness of the phone, the Galaxy S8 may be the designed phone right now. Even though there are other flagship phones that are doing the bezelless-tall phones out right now, you have to add on the all metal and glass, expandable storage, fully water resistant, and best, there is still a headphone jack! The display on the Galaxy S8 may be the best in the market right now because it’s super bright outside, so you can see better, and it has OLED, which means the colors and details are more precise and accurate. All in all, I think this phone has the complete package. Even though it has some minor things that are wrong with it, I recommend people to buy this beautifully designed phone. - Jimmy Nguyen |
