Anthem is a multiplayer game where you play the campaign along with other people and gain loot by completing different missions. The game came out on February 22, 2019. It was developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. You can play the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. It features a co-op Multiplayer role, where you and three other people play, or there is regular single player. The game was off to a rough start but it seems to be doing okay at this point in time.
In Anthem, you play as a Freelancer, which are adventurers that wear exoskeleton suits to help humanity face threat that are outside the city wall. The Exoskeleton suit is called a Javelin, and there are four different types of Javelins. There’s the Ranger, which is an all around player, the Colossus, which is a heavy- type player, the Storm, which uses technology and “elemental” powers, and lastly, there’s the interceptor, which relies on Close Combat and moving quickly. You also get loot drops, with different types of rarities to your loot drops. There is common, uncommon, rare, epic, masterwork, and legendary. However, equipping these loots is said to be a real pain in doing so. According to a review on Polygon.com, “I kill an enemy, and a purple diamond pops out of it. I fly over and touch the purple diamond. A pop-up on the screen confirms that I have found an Epic piece of gear. I complete the mission that I’m on. And I get a load screen. Upon completing the mission, I’m given a list of all of the loot I’ve found. Turns out there was a purple assault rifle in there. In order to equip that loot, I must travel into the Forge, where all gear is equipped. Another load screen. I equip my Epic assault rifle. I equip the other loot I’ve found. I am satisfied with my current loadout. I leave the Forge. Load screen, again. I start another mission to try out my new assault rifle. Load screen. I shoot a bandit. The assault rifle feels bad, and I want to switch back to what I was using. This will require four more load screens.” So we can see that there are too many loading screens for equipping the new loot that you get. Furthermore, the campaign of Anthem is said to be too repetitive. Most of the campaign is filled with various basic objectives, and talking to npc’s. (Non-playable Characters) The campaign consists of objectives like, “collect six of these floating things and bring them back” and “kill anything around here.” These same objectives appear multiple times throughout the 15 hours of the campaign. Anthem is said to have some great combat experiences, but the campaign doesn’t allow for the combat in the game to be used to its fullest. The campaign is just to repeatable. However, one key feature in Anthem, as is in all BioWare games, are the npc’s. By speaking to the NPC’s, you can unlock and obtain certain missions or items. However, you cannot create a relationship, as you can in other BioWare games, such as Mass Effect. Mass Effect and Anthem do share a few similarities, but mostly they are each their own independent game. Alas the last part we should fully explore of Anthem is the setting. It takes place on an unknown and unidentified planet. The place where you essentially live and protect is called Fort Tarsis. Exploring for Tarsis is slow and their are tons of npcs that you can talk to, which creates a more boring and interesting spin to the game. It’s interesting because you have the chance to explore a new world, and see how epic it is. However, it’s also boring because you have to talk to tons of npcs, which is a waste of time. And Fort Tarsis is huge so walking around it is slow. Too much time is taken away exploring a setting. In addition to exploring Fort Tarsis, you can also explore the outside area of Fort Tarsis. You can go out of Fort Tarsis for the missions that are around the area that takes place. You see, as I said before, you are basically defending the Fort from any outside attacks or threats.
