Tyler Oakley was born on March 22, 1989 and raised in Jackson Michigan. Tyler began making videos in 2007 when he was a Freshman in Michigan State University. Tyler is also an activist for many social issues such as gay rights, education, and healthcare. He is most involved with The Trevor Project, which is a hotline for LGBT+ teenagers. He hosted a red carpet event and raised around $500,000 in support of their work. From all of Tyler Oakley’s success in the media and activism, he was given the opportunity to meet Barack Obama at the White House, and filmed a video with Michelle Obama about education. Tyler won a Teen Choice Award for most popular male web star in 2014, and a Youtube entertainment award for best male vlogger. Tyler’s activism and humor in the media got him really well known on social media and Youtube! What Does He Do?![]() Tyler’s Youtube channel “Tyler Oakley” was created in 2007. He became well known for his goofy personality and being described as having one of the loudest voices on Youtube. His sense of humor put him at the forefront of gay politics and culture. One of Tyler’s first videos was called “Raindrops” which was posted 7 years ago and got over 70,000 views on Youtube. Tyler makes tons of different videos. He makes videos addressing important things such as gay marriage, friendship and being yourself. He also does Q&A’s, challenges, and many collaborations. Tyler has done collaborations with Youtubers such as Joey Graceffa, Shane Dawson, Troye Sivan, Colleen Ballinger A.K.A Miranda Sings and many more. Tyler came out of the closet on 2011, he made a video saying he was gay and posted it on his Youtube channel. He has another youtube channel where he does his daily vlogs, this youtube channel is called “Extratyler”. Tyler’s audience usually consist of young adults or teens. Tyler Oakley is awesome and I recommend watching his videos because he is hilarious and always gives really good advice. He encourages his audience to be themselves and he always makes relatable videos. He is never afraid of being himself and he loves his subscribers a lot. Tyler is very inspirational!
