By Jessica Gregorio ![]() The Earth was abandoned 97 years ago when a nuclear war killed all life on the planet. Before the war was over, space stations were created to keep the remaining survivors safe. These space stations eventually merged to create one large space station consisting of 12 smaller space stations. This large space station is called ¨The Ark¨. Laws on The Ark state that anybody who commits a crime must be killed by ¨floating¨ them (they open the doors and release the people into space where they die). Anybody under 18 who commits a crime is jailed until they turn 18. Scientists start noticing that their resources of oxygen are running out. The leader of ¨The Ark¨, Chancellor Jaha, decides that they are going to send 100 of these minors to the Earth because they are expendable. Chancellor Jaha says that their job is to see if the Earth is inhabitable so that the rest of ¨The Ark¨ can live on Earth. The show follows this group of teenagers as they struggle to survive. The main characters are Clarke Griffin, Bellamy Blake, Finn Collins, Octavia Blake, Raven Reyes, Jasper Jordan, Monty Green, and Lincoln. Clarke Griffin and Bellamy Blake are known as the leaders, trying to create a community and making sure that everyone is safe. After creating their small community, people begin to notice that they aren’t the only ones of the Earth. Grounders, people who survived the war, now live in small tribes and fight the 100. As season 2 airs you find out that the 100 also have to worry about the Mountain Men, people who survived the war but they are not immune to the radiation that still exists, and the Reapers, cannibalistic monsters created in season 2. The show is post-apocalyptic and has a lot of action. There is a lot of representation of female characters and characters of color, which is great because there aren’t many shows that have this representation. The show is based on the book series by Kass Morgan. The second season is currently airing. Characters (left to right): Finn Collins, Clarke Griffin, Bellamy Blake, Jasper Jones, Olivia Blake, Raven Reyes, Lincoln, Monty Green, Abigail Griffin, Thelonius Jaha, and Marcus Kane
