Ms. Rios Journalism 21 December 2018 It’s no surprise that the 4th installment of The Avengers would spark so much conversation in and out of the internet. Avengers: Endgame is the 4th Marvel movie that features most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters. It’s the continuation of Avengers: Infinity War, which also had everybody on the edge of their seats. Infinity War was all about the Avengers, the Guardians, and all the other MCU characters trying to stop and beat Thanos from collecting all of the Infinity Stones. Thanos, the main antagonist, ended up succeeding in wiping half of living things in the world, including most of our beloved characters, Spiderman, Black Panther, Bucky Barnes, and Scarlet Witch, just to name a few. From the new trailer, we can see the remaining survivors of Thanos’ snap: Captain America, Ironman, Black Widow, Nebula, Bruce Banner/Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, and Hawkeye. The trailer started out with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) recording a message to his fiance, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). We hear that his food has run out and oxygen will run out soon. After the heartbreaking start, the rest of the trailer is focused on Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) narrating the emotional trauma of the snap. The trailer, in general, didn’t show any plot and what could possibly happen, but merely shows the survivors and the anticipated title of the new film. In just twenty-four hours, the highly anticipated trailer was viewed by a whopping 289 million people, successfully beating the preceding film, Avengers: Infinity War. Because the trailer didn’t show anything about the plot, many internet blogs and content creators conspired plenty of different theories. Some theories include Captain Marvel, time traveling, and who will save Ironman. One of the biggest theory of how Endgame would turn out is the fact that the remaining Avengers would time travel. Earlier in the year, leaked set photos of the cast were seen with their old costumes from the very first Avengers film. It was also hinted in previous movies like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Infinity War that time travel is possible to do in the MCU. Could time travel be the only way they get to beat Thanos? One of the other biggest theory circling around the internet is the fact that Captain Marvel would save the Avengers, wield the infinity gauntlet, and beat Thanos once and for all. It’s no secret that the Captain Marvel film will be released in 2019 and her symbol appeared in the after-credits scene in Infinity War. This theory is very plausible and it would be a great way to integrate Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers into the MCU. Superhero movies have become more mainstream as the years went on, and the superhero movie franchise has become a multi-million dollar industry. A few people from KSJC were very ecstatic about the trailer being dropped, and one of those people is Sierra Estifanos. Sierra is a 12th grader and has been a fan of Marvel for quite a while. She said, “I’m really excited because I love Marvel and I want to know how the MCU continues the characters’ story, I just don’t want any of them to die”. It really isn’t a big secret that some of the original characters like Ironman, Captain America, or even Thor, could die in this final Avengers film. The actors’ contracts are up and it’s unclear whether any of them has signed on to do more movies. Although there are millions of Marvel fans, there are others that didn’t even know that there was a new Avengers that’s coming out! Alyanna Salva is an 11th grader from Oakmont High school. She isn’t as thrilled as others and barely found out that there’s another Avengers film coming out, “I’m not really that excited because I don’t watch those movies often”. Well, whether you watch action movies or not, Avengers: Endgame is going to be one of the biggest superhero film of 2019.
