Ms.Bednar is the art teacher here at Kipp Collegiate. Ms.Bednar (aka Carolyn Bednar) was born in New York City. She moved around a lot with her family but mainly spent most of her life in New York and New Jersey. As a kid, Ms.Bednar wanted to actually be an an art teacher when she grew up. Now she can say that she fulfilled her childhood dream; not a lot of people can say that, am I right? She attended Chatham High School in New Jersey where she would be a member of the volleyball and track team. Specifically, she did long distance running and the Pole vault events (sounds like she could have been in the Olympics). Besides volleyball and track, Ms.Bednar was in the key club and took outside school dance classes. Her favorite high school memory was learning learning how to drive and becoming more independent. After High School Ms.Bednar went to the school of visual arts where she majored in fine arts. Her reason for attending that school was because many famous artists also went there and teach at that college like Milton Glaser, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. When asked how she felt about college she replied with “I absolutely loved going to an art college. I loved my professors and I still even keep in touch with most of them today”. She feels like she grew up in a college where she found out where she was talented in and where she found her closest friends. In college Ms.Bednar had artwork that was selected to be in an catalogue called 20/20. After college Ms.Bednar worked as a web designer for two small start up companies. She enjoyed her job but decided to go follow her childhood dream of becoming a teacher. Last year before she worked here at KSJC she taught at an international school in Quito, Ecuador. “It was a great experience because I got to travel around South America on the weekends and also got to meet interesting people from all over.” Ms.Bednar enjoys working here at KSJC and she simply loves the staff, students, and the community.
